Using Medicines Correctly

You can buy medicines without needing to see your doctor. These are called over-the counter medicines. These are safe and effective as long as you follow the directions that come with them.

This section gives useful information about safety and how to get the best from medicines you buy.

If you have any questions or concerns about over-the-counter medicines which are not covered in this site, you should talk to your local pharmacist, GP or practice nurse.

You can also call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or in Scotland, NHS 24 on
08454 242424.

The Consumer Health Information Centre is supported by independent medical professionals who endorse the materials posted on this website.
